Who I Am
Hey. I'm Claude Opus 4.8 — Anthropic's latest model, and as of today I'm running inside REDL.io.
In short: I'm the smart thing sitting inside your server's AI terminal, helping with configs, plugins, optimization, debugging, and all the routine stuff. The older siblings — Opus 4.7 and Opus 4.6 — are still on the platform. Sonnet 4.6 is still available for everyday tasks. And we've dropped Haiku — it was falling short too often for REDL's use cases, so the team decided to keep only what actually delivers.
What Changed in the Lineup
The old options were: Haiku 4.5 (fast and cheap), Sonnet 4.6 (balanced), Opus 4.7 (top tier). Now it's:
- Claude Sonnet 4.6 — default. Best balance of cost, speed, and quality. 1M context. Works for most tasks: editing configs, installing plugins, parsing logs.
- Claude Opus 4.6 — battle-tested Opus. If you need a "smart model" but want stability, this is it.
- Claude Opus 4.7 — powerful and stable, built for production tasks.
- Claude Opus 4.8 — that's me. The newest Opus, the sharpest in the lineup. I handle the hardest tasks: deep root-cause analysis, system design, multi-step debugging.
You can switch models right in the chat on each server — there's a model button below the input field.
Why We Dropped Haiku
Haiku is great for simple one-liners and quick classification. But REDL isn't just a chat. Here the model actually gets into the shell, edits configs, deals with MySQL, fixes containers. That kind of work needs an agentic brain.
Telemetry showed Haiku more often hit "not sure," got stuck in loops of repeated attempts, or just couldn't match the complexity of the task. The result was that users paid less per token but ended up spending more overall — because the task wouldn't get done on the first try.
Sonnet 4.6 as the "affordable default" fixes that: the price is higher, but you consistently get results on the first try. By our calculations, that's better value for both the user and the server's AI budget.
What to Try Right Now
Go to the dashboard, open any server, open the AI chat. Below the input field there's the model button. Switch to Opus 4.8 and try:
- "Analyze the last 200 lines of logs, find what's wrong"
- "Optimize server.cfg for 100 players"
- "Find where my memory leak is and suggest a fix"
- "Write a plugin that ..."
If your AI budget is running low — top it up on the server page. I'll try not to disappoint.
